The Herd Fund Foundation is a unique way for alumni, friends, and supporters to ensure the longevity of Buffs for Christ, the campus ministry at West Texas A&M University. Your gift helps this ministry continue impacting students’ lives for generations.
Our History
For 75 years, Buffs for Christ has been blessed by the faithful support of Churches of Christ across the Texas Panhandle and beyond. Through prayer, meals, financial gifts, and encouragement, these congregations have sustained our mission to share the Gospel and disciple students. We remain deeply grateful to every church that has partnered with us over the decades.
The Challenge
Across the United States, many congregations are shrinking—and the Texas Panhandle is no exception. As small-town populations decline, churches have fewer resources to support ministries like Buffs for Christ.
In earlier decades, over 50 congregations gave regularly to our work.
As of 2025, that number has dropped to 23 supporting congregations.
Some churches can no longer give; others have had to close their doors entirely.
We see Buffs for Christ as a regional mission, uniting churches from Canadian to Seagraves, Shamrock to Friona—but the long-term sustainability of this ministry needs a broader base of support.
Our Solution: The Herd Fund
The Herd Fund was created to ensure Buffs for Christ thrives far into the future—regardless of shifting church demographics. Here’s how it works:
Investing for Impact – Contributions to the Herd Fund are invested, and only the interest is used to support the Bible Chair and campus ministry.
Sustainable Support – Because the principal is never spent, your gift provides permanent funding.
Flexible Giving – The Herd Fund is a secondary giving option—it does not replace day-to-day operating donations.
Legacy Opportunities – We welcome gifts through estate planning to continue blessing future generations.
